Antidepressants Injure Newborns - This Month Save a Child
Reports published in the beginning of February 2006 found that women who take Prozac, a common antidepressant drug, during the second half of their pregnancy are about six times more likely to give birth to a baby with a rare, but potentially fatal, heart and lung condition.

The FDA held a news conference on February 8, 2006 and is expecting to issue a public health advisory based on the finding. According to reports, the FDA is also considering asking the drug's maker to add warning labels to the antidepressant's packaging. What’s even more troubling is that a 1996 report concluded that researchers had found evidence that antidepressants could cause fetal damage - yet the drug industry pushed these pills anyway.
“In 1996 researchers had found evidence that antidepressants could cause fetal damage – yet the drug industry pushed these pills anyway.”
The antidepressants in question are called SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They include: citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline, which are sold under 19 brand names including: Celexa, Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.
Babies born with the lung disorder Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) often require mechanical assistance to breathe. Between 10 and 20 percent of these newborns will die soon after birth, while others will have developmental delays, hearing loss and other serious brain abnormalities.
As time goes on, it appears that the drug industry is delivering more harm than good to depression suffers and their families. It's clear - happiness and health cannot be found in a pill, especially if you are pregnant! The answer that so many people are looking for is simple - take responsibility for your own health. Stay informed and take care of yourself through regular chiropractic care, a healthy diet, plenty of water, and regular exercise.
Ritalin In The News:
Chiropractors have long known the damaging effects that Ritalin has on children. It’s sad that it takes a mass overdosing in an Australian school to finally make parents, teachers, health professionals and politicians pay attention to what chiropractors and other “wellness” professionals have known for many years.
Here is something more to consider about the drug: A study demonstrated that children taking Ritalin are three times more likely to develop chromosomal damage that can cause cancer!
Here’s an idea for our politicians:
(1) Routinely have children’s Central Nervous Systems checked for interference – that could be the cause of their aberrant behavior.
(2) Consider that Ritalin is causing more interference to their mind and body, not reducing it!
This month, take the time to save a child. The constant drugging and chemical abuse of our kids’ little minds and bodies has got to stop – and you can help! So, please do so. If you know of a woman who is pregnant or has young children, whether a friend, family member or co-worker, be sure to share this newsletter with her. Let her know that she can come in for a $37 initial subluxation evaluation in our office this month!
This report comes from the February 24, 2005 release of “Cancer Letters,” a journal that discusses cancer research. According to the article, a study at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston found that one of every twelve children treated for ADD/ADHD with methylphenidate, the active ingredient in Ritalin, experienced a threefold increase in levels of chromosomal abnormalities – the type associated with cancer.
Worse still, researchers discovered that chromosomal damage affected ALL of the children studied within only three months of taking the drug. While this does not mean that they will get cancer, it does expose them to an additional risk factor.
To the researchers’ knowledge, they conducted the first-ever study to examine the link between methylphenidate and its potential chromosome-damaging effects. This is startling news, considering that methylphenidate has been approved for use in humans for more than 50 years!
Children who exhibit abnormal behavior do so for a variety of reasons. We believe it is extremely unwise to medicate a child without having first done everything possible to avoid the need to medicate. Such things include: drastically changing the child’s diet, increasing the amount of regular cardiovascular and weight-bearing exercise, limiting noxious external stimuli (i.e. computer games and T.V.) Finally, the most obvious cause that could contribute to a little child’s mind and body not functioning properly is undetected and uncorrected vertebral subluxation!
This month, take the time to save a child. Pass this wellness weekly onto families who need to read it. If you haven’t done so already, have your own children checked for subluxation.
